Smith Rock

September 23-24, 2007
with Sue Carey, Maryanne Reiter and April Anderson

I lead the first two pitches of Super Slab on Sunday with Sue belaying, but was unsure of being at the right place to start the third pitch, so backed off. Thanks to Maryanne and April for lending us a rope to use for the double-rope rappel. Turns out that the definition of “unexposed” (as in “unexposed 5.7 move”) used in the description of the walk-off is one that I’m not familiar with.

Maryanne offered to trail an extra rope for Sue and me, so all four of us were able to complete the route on Monday. She found a new, fixed piece on the third pitch: a number one or two stopper. Looks like someone must have taken a fall on it—it’s stuck in there pretty good.
